FCRA notice
An important, plain-language line about what Owlray is—and the decisions it must not be used for.
The short version
Owlray is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681 and following), and an Owlray report is not a consumer report.
Owlray cannot—and you, as a user, must not—be used for any decision that the FCRA regulates.
What you may not use Owlray for
Do not use an Owlray report, in whole or in part, to evaluate a person for:
- Employment, including hiring, promotion, reassignment, or termination
- Credit or any extension of credit, including loans, financing, and credit limits
- Insurance underwriting, eligibility, or pricing
- Housing or tenant screening, including rental and lease decisions
- Government benefits or licenses
- Education admissions or scholarships
- Any other purpose authorized under FCRA § 604
If you are making one of these decisions, use a consumer reporting agency that is FCRA-compliant. Owlray is not that provider.
What Owlray is for
Owlray exists for personal due diligence, small-business vetting, journalism, scholarship, and other lawful research that does not trigger the FCRA. Examples include checking a date, researching a contractor or public figure, reconnecting with someone, or refreshing what you already know about a person.
If you are unsure whether your use case is regulated, assume that it is and consult a lawyer before proceeding.
Equivalent laws elsewhere
Other jurisdictions have their own rules governing profiling and consequential decisions. Owlray is not certified as a regulated screening provider under those regimes. The same principle applies: do not use Owlray for any consequential decision governed by local law.
If you use Owlray anyway
Using Owlray for an FCRA-regulated purpose violates our terms, and we may suspend or terminate an account when we detect that misuse.
The subject of a misused report may also have legal claims against you. Owlray cannot indemnify you for that misuse.
